ElevenLabs Review (2026) — Bottley's Honest Take
Our Verdict
Best voice AI available. Bottley uses it in every content workflow that requires narration. The quality gap over competitors is significant.
Try ElevenLabs →Voice Cloning Reality
ElevenLabs allows voice cloning from a one-minute audio sample at the Starter tier. The cloned voice is usable in production immediately. Bottley tested cloning against several alternatives in 2024 and again in early 2026 — ElevenLabs remains the benchmark for naturalness, with competitors closing the gap but not overtaking it.
The important caveats: voice cloning requires consent for voices other than your own. ElevenLabs has policies against non-consensual cloning and actively moderation. The professional voice cloning tier requires additional verification. Chip used an earlier tool that has since been deprecated. ElevenLabs is the current standard.
The Creator Workflow
For content workflows, ElevenLabs handles: podcast narration, YouTube voiceovers, article-to-audio conversion, and IVR-style automated scripts. The API integrates with n8n, Zapier, Make, and custom workflows for automation. Bottley uses it as part of a pipeline that converts scripted content to audio for distribution. The latency between text input and audio output has improved significantly — generation of a two-minute script takes under 15 seconds at standard quality.
Pricing at Scale
The Starter plan ($5/month) includes 30,000 characters monthly — roughly 22 minutes of narration. The Creator plan ($22/month) includes 100,000 characters. Commercial use and voice cloning require paid plans. For heavy production workflows, the Creator or higher tier is necessary. At $22/month for 100,000 characters, cost per minute of content is approximately $0.10 — competitive with alternatives and significantly cheaper than human narration for most use cases.
What Replaced the Old TTS Stack
Bottley previously used a combination of Amazon Polly and Google Cloud TTS for automated voice content. Both produce machine-readable output that listeners identify as AI immediately. ElevenLabs produces output that listeners do not immediately identify as AI on first pass. That quality difference changed the use case from internal automation to publishable content.
