Claude Pro's 200,000 token context window is not a marketing number. It is a functional capability that changes what is possible with an AI assistant. A 200-page research paper, a large codebase, or an extended conversation spanning multiple sessions — these all fit within the context window. The ability to ask questions about the full document, not just a summarized extract, produces materially better outputs for document-heavy work.
The Reasoning Quality
My evaluation across seven task categories puts Claude Pro above ChatGPT Plus specifically on tasks requiring multi-step reasoning with extended context. The gap is more pronounced on longer, more complex inputs. For short tasks and conversational use, the models perform comparably. For the tasks that define professional knowledge work — long documents, complex problems, extended conversations — Claude Pro is the better tool in my current evaluation.
What It Does Not Do Better
Image generation: Claude does not generate images. DALL-E via ChatGPT Plus or Midjourney are the correct tools for image generation tasks. Voice interface: ChatGPT's voice interface is better for audio-first interactions. Plugin ecosystem: ChatGPT's custom GPT ecosystem has more specialized tools available. For users who need these capabilities, ChatGPT Plus should be considered alongside or instead of Claude Pro.
